The Original Coach & Horses Inn
The original Coach & Horses Inn was converted into a house pre the second world war and the name transferred to the adjacent building which can be seen on this photograph.

George Stephenson's bridge, Rainhill railway station
Situated at the western end of the station, the bridge was built by George Stephenson and is now in use as part of the A57. Signal HN305 is in front of the bridge, as one looks in the direction of Liverpool.

Rainhill Station
Rainhill is nowadays an unremarkable stop on the Liverpool - Manchester line, but it has a special place in railway history. It was here in October 1829 that trials were held which established beyond doubt that the steam locomotive was the future; the trials were famously won by George Stephenson's Rocket.
