St Mary's Church, Knowsley Village
The Anglo-Saxon Kenulf was once the lord of Knowsley, a corruption of Kenulf's Ley (Ley meaning meadowland). The village of Knowsley developed as a direct result of the nearby Knowsley Hall, for over 500 years, residence of the Lathom/Stanley family, better known as the Earls of Derby. The parish church was built 1841-4 and paid for by the 13th Earl of Derby.
