Imposing, with a colonnade of giant Doric columns in polished granite. By Thomas C. Clarke, 1884. Grade II listed. Built as offices, Central Buildings, it is now the Hard Days Night Hotel, supposedly "the world's only Beatles-inspired hotel". The four members are depicted in insipid statues above the colonnade.

Hard Days Night Hotel
Looking down the North John Street from Lord Street. The building with the flags is the Hard Days Night Hotel Image, which now has statues of the four Beatles at first floor level. It opened in February 2008 in the old Central Buildings, around the corner from the Cavern Club.

Mathew Street, The Cavern Club
The original Cavern Club opened on Wednesday 16 January 1957 as a jazz club, later becoming a centre of the rock and roll scene in Liverpool in the 1960s. The Beatles played in the club in their early years. The original Cavern club closed in March 1973 and was filled in during construction work on the Merseyrail underground rail loop.It re-opened on 26 April 1984 having been rebuilt using many of the original bricks, to the original plans and on the same address, 10 Mathew Street.

The Cavern Wall of Fame
Each brick represents an artist or band who has/have played at the original Cavern Club between 1957 and 1973. It was commissioned for the 40th anniversary of the Cavern Club in January 1997. The statue represents John Lennon.

Statue of John Lennon in Mathew Street
This statue of John Lennon is sited in Mathew Street opposite the entrance to the original Cavern. The bricks surrounding the statue each bear the name of a group or singer of the "Merseybeat" era.
