Detail of 28 Exchange Street East, Liverpool
The building has been much mauled (e.g. what happened to the pink granite column on the left?), and was boarded up, but the ebullient carving has survived. The Building News was not impressed, calling it "showy" and "commonplace". Built as Mason's Building, c1866, to the designs of John Cunningham.
