Fireless loco at Crawford's biscuit factory ? 1965 - 5
Just visible bottom left on the exchange sidings. The view also shows the extensive high level freight sidings at Edge Hill, known as the Gridiron, to the right of the picture. Also visible are a Stanier 8F locomotive on a freight train and an electric locomotive running light. On the left is Pighue ("Piggy") Lane, from which it can be seen that much of the railway area has been built over with industrial development.

'King of Edge Hill' ? 1966
At most large steam locomotive sheds, a particular locomotive was kept for use around the shed, known as a shed pilot. Its duties would including moving 'dead' locomotives, or as here, moving coal and ash wagons around the area. 47406 has been given an unofficial name, chalked on the side, reflecting this role. It is one of the class of 0-6-0T engines known as 'Jinties' designed for the Midland Railway and built in large numbers by its successor the LMS Railway for general shunting and local traffic work. This particular locomotive has survived into preservation and is currently (2021) at the Great Central Railway https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5572776

Shunting at Crawford's biscuit factory ? 1965 - 4
Stanier 8F 48513 collects vans from the exchange siding. The three vertical white stripes on the van indicate that this is a 'Shockvan' with additional springing to limit damage to fragile goods. Note also the shunter's pole parked on the rear of the tender. This was used for attaching and detaching the 3-link couplings.

Looking down from the top of the grain silo. The loco is shunting empty wagons into the factory site. The railway lines have all disappeared - the site is now occupied by a light industrial estate.
