Muirhead Avenue northern bridge - detail
Construction of this road bridge appears to be steel girders with concrete infill on brick piers. The reinforced concrete is now spalling badly and it will only be a matter of time before the Council needs to take action. See Image for context.

Muirhead Avenue bridges
Muirhead Avenue is one of those estate spine roads built as a dual carriageway in the interwar period when land was cheap. It crossed the railway line by a pair of bridges. Construction appears to be steel girders with concrete infill on brick piers. The railway line is now part of the Sustrans cycle/walking route. Image shows the far bridge from the road user's point of view.

Norris Green Park
The name Norris has been associated with Liverpool since the Norman times, mainly linked with Speke Hall. The park houses the ruin of Norris Green, the original name of the grand mansion built by the Norris family Image in the fields and pastureland near West Derby. The park was created from the gardens and grounds of the mansion, though you would be hard pushed to find flowers other than weeds there today. Norris Green gave its name to the vast, featureless council housing estate built to ease the housing crisis of the 1920's on land given to the city by Lord Derby of Knowsley Hall. He donated the land on the provision that no public houses were to be built within the estate.

Norris Green
The vandalised and graffiti strewn ruins of Norris Green, the mansion built in 1830 to replace the original mansion built in the 17th century by the Norris family. It stands in the park which was created for the large Norris Green council estate from the grounds of the mansion. The building itself was demolished in 1931 leaving just one wall of sandstone blocks showing the classical architecture of what was once there. Above the arch, a crest with inscription: ALTE VOLO "I fly high".
