The shoppers
Their bag is getting heavy, their feet are getting sore and they've sat down on a convenient bench in Lyon Square for a moment's rest. Just one of the more quirky of the many public artworks in the new town of Glenrothes, this one being in the Kingdom Shopping Centre mall.

Life Cycle mural
At the Albany Gate entrance to the Kingdom Centre this mural was formed in red ceramic tile by Malcolm Robertson in 1982. There is a human embryo at the left-hand end, some countryside scenery and a visual reference near the centre of the mural to the Giant Hands sculpture Image which he also created for Glenrothes.

Ex Terra
This striking sculpture outside Glenrothes' bus station was the first major work of public art in Glenrothes. Its name derives from the motto of Glenrothes Development Corporation "Ex Terra Vis" (From the Earth comes Life) which refers to the town's roots in the mining industry. Created in 1965 by renowned sculptor Benno Schotz (1891-1984) it shows a maternal figure emerging, tree-like, from the ground, symbolising the growth of the town.
