Standing stone Memorial
Unlike most British towns and cities, because it was established only in 1948 Glenrothes has no war memorial to servicemen who fell in WW1 and WW2. The loss in Iraq in 2004 of two local soldiers from the Black Watch highlighted the lack of a war memorial in the town and in 2007 this impressive one, designed by Alan Bisset, was inaugurated on Remembrance Day in November 2007. Combining hard and soft landscaping, with six standing stones of slate, it is intended to represent Past, Present and Future.

The Dream
An exact replica of this 1985 bronze-cast sculpture by Malcolm Robertson (which celebrates the natural friendship of young people regardless of race or colour) was gifted by Glenrothes to the people of their twin town, Böblingen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The sculpture, whose figures were based on local Glenrothes children, is located evocatively close to the standing stones of Glenrothes' War Memorial, visible here in the background.

Ex Terra
This striking sculpture outside Glenrothes' bus station was the first major work of public art in Glenrothes. Its name derives from the motto of Glenrothes Development Corporation "Ex Terra Vis" (From the Earth comes Life) which refers to the town's roots in the mining industry. Created in 1965 by renowned sculptor Benno Schotz (1891-1984) it shows a maternal figure emerging, tree-like, from the ground, symbolising the growth of the town.
