Entrance to Fordell Industrial Estate
Fordell Industrial Estate (actually mid way between Crossgates and Cowdenbeath) used to be accessed from Cowdenbeath over a railway bridge, however a dispute over maintenance of the bridge led to the construction of an access road from the B981. The industrial estate lies on the site of a former colliery, the 'Alice' pit, later a training centre.

Railway Bridge at Crossgates
The B981 crosses the Fife Circle Line at this point. The M90 is now the major route north, but previous to its construction this was the A90, or the Great North Road from North Queensferry to Perth.

Site of Crossgates station, 1988
View NE, towards Thornton Junction: ex-NBR Dunfermline - Thornton Junction (Glenrothes since 6/10/69) line. The station was closed to passengers on 26/9/49, to goods from 10/8/64, but the line remains active.
