Tunnel under the railway
A tunnel under the railway allows the stream which flows down the valley behind the Kingswood Hotel to outflow onto Burntisland Sands. Possibly there is a way through to the A921 on foot, providing an escape route from the Sands at high tide, but thee was no sign of daylight at the far end, so I didn't take the risk of checking it out!

Kingswood Hotel
Built circa 1850 by the Johnstone family, sugar planters from Jamaica, the Kingswood remained a private residence until around 1930. In 1986 the hotel was purchased by Rankin and Kathryn Bell who have personally managed it ever since.

Burntisland Sands
Burntisland Sands are almost completely covered at high tide, and much of the area is extremely wet even at low tide. The railway runs on an embankment just above the coast.
