Gateside Bobbin Mill
Founded for flax spinning in 1805 it later became a bobbin manufacturing mill in the later 19th century. It was rebuilt in brick after a fire in 1949. The chimney served a Lancashire boiler. The mill is now in multiple occupancy but appeared very run down with little happening. I took a handful of photographs and moved swiftly on.

Gateside Sawmills
Early 20th c. sawmills on the banks of the river Eden just outside Gateside. A rail bed is still present. The buildings are used by several businesses, the most recent of which (2012) is a glass blowing concern in the wooden extension on the West end of the buildings pictured here.
