Stonework (re-cycled)
When Dunfermline Abbey and Monastery became redundant after the Reformation in 1560 they fell into disrepair and some parts collapsed. These ruins became a source of building materials for locals. Many buildings in Dunfermline have varying amounts of Abbey stonework in them, but this small cottage, in St Margaret's Street, is completely constructed from materials recovered from the ruined Abbey.

Its use is not apparent, but it seems clear that the stone has been quarried from the Abbey buildings after the Reformation.

Off a spur from St Margaret St. An apothegm across the paved path (Monastery St) declares: 'No bright child of Dunfermline can escape the influence of the Abbey, Palace and Glen' [culled I gather from the Autobiography of Andrew Carnegie].
