The New Town Project in post war Britain is well known, as are the likes of some of its towns such as Telford and Livingston. Outwith and after this project were several small towns such as this one Dalgety Bay. It's an attractive suburb overlooking the Forth. This is a typical recent addition, built in 1998. East and West Cairn Hills in the Pentlands can be seen beyond the Forth Bridge.

Lt. Sales Avenue
A residential street (with a small supermarket) which bears a name reminding one that much of Dalgety Bay town was built on what had, from 1917 until 1959, been Donibristle Royal Naval Air Station. Other similar street names include Fulmar Way and Beech Way (named after aircraft); Donibristle Gardens and Merlin Way (Donibristle aerodrome was known to the Royal Navy as HMS Merlin); Bellman Way (after a type of hangar); and Taxi Way (after the airfield taxiway). All I have managed to discover about Lieutenant Brian Sales is that in 1946 he wrote the verse: "Pause in thy labours for a while And offer up a silent humble prayer That they who toiled here once but now are gone May triumph in the great grim fight For life and liberty in the world outside."
