The Thurso Combination Poorhouse was completed in 1856 and served the parishes of Bower, Canisbay, Dunnet, Halkirk, Olrig, Reay, Thurso and Watten. The other two parishes in Caithness, Wick and Latheron, had their own combination poorhouse at Latheron. The Thurso poorhouse closed sometime before 1924 when it was sold off by the combination.
