A9 entering Golspie
Golspie is a village and parish in Sutherland, in the Scottish Highland Region. The village lies on the A9 along the North Sea coast in the shadow of Ben Bhraggie. It had a population of around 1,350 at the 2011 census. The name is derived from the Norse for "gully village".

Approaching Golspie Station
On a northbound train. Golspie was the original 1868 terminus of the Sutherland Railway. In 1965 there was still a long passing loop, with a signal box at each end which explains the presence of a distant signal arm on the nearest signal.
