Old Station Approach. The original station (now demolished) was opened by the London & South Western Railway in 1867. Some of the houses, in this picture, appear to date from that era.

Leatherhead L&SWR station (site), Surrey
Opened in 1867 by the London & South Western Railway as the terminus of a short branch from Effingham Junction, this station closed in 1927 when services were diverted into the current station (just out-of-sight, to the left of the camera position), by the Southern Railway.

Train leaving Leatherhead
A railway train leaving Leatherhead station. There is a junction just beyond the station, the tracks going straight ahead go to Dorking and Horsham, those branching off to the right head for Effingham Junction and Guildford. Tracks are electrified using the third rail system.
The train is an electric multiple unit operated by the South Western Railway franchise, but still wearing the red livery of the previous franchise operator, South West Trains.
