Nursery Road
A close off Deans Lane. In the background is Chussex, a grade II listed house built in 1908 to a design of Sir Edwin Lutyens. It was built for William Herbert Fowler, who had designed the nearby Walton Heath Golf Course, on which he built up a reputation as one of the best course architects of the period. Chussex
House in Nursery Road, built in 1908, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The first resident was William Herbert Fowler, who had designed the nearby Walton Heath Golf Course, on which he built up a reputation as one of the best course architects of the period, who lived there until c1920. From c1922-6 it was home to Sir Hedley Le Bas, publisher and advertising executive, most remembered for the World War I recruiting campaign built around the slogan "Your country needs you".
