Road Race Support Vehicles
No major road race event can take place without the support vehicles, carrying replacement bikes and wheels.
Most of the support vehicles followed closely behind the Olympic Games Women's Road Race competitors. However, these vehicles were running about four minutes ahead of the lead riders.
With narrow lanes around the Box Hill circuit, I'm guessing that these cars were the 'insurance policy', in case a major crash blocked the road behind the lead riders. On a day which saw significant rainfall, on sections of the race route, several riders suffered from punctures, and there were the 'expected' unexpected crashes.

Off the Mark - Lizzie Armitstead Wins Silver!
