Bridleway junction near Bachelor's Rough, Headley Heath
The bridleway is the one that runs along the southern boundary of Headley Heath. At this point it makes a sharp left-turn, and drops into a steep gully. In mid-March it was clear that few riders had been this way recently - the descent into the gully would be pretty treacherous. On the right, a short distance ahead, a firm stony track leads uphill to the Headley 'plateau'. As I was taking this photo I heard my first bumble-bee of the spring season. There were quite a few smaller insects on the wing - whereas the previous day (at Osterley) I'd not seen any, though both days were equally mild.
