Bridleway bridge under railway
Bridleway bridge under the railway southeast of Ewell East station. The line was built in 1847 as the Croydon and Epsom Railway, and the bridge dates from construction. Then, as now, it crossed a bridleway which joins with another from the upper end of Epsom to East Ewell. The arch is unusually broad but low: sufficient to allow the passage of a mounted rider, but as wide as a road bridge. A footpath, Epsom & Ewell 104, crosses bridleway Epsom & Ewell 12, just in front of the bridge: the footpath was established to link Reigate Road with Cheam Road and the station.
