County Buildings, Ayr
The County Buildings were built in the early 1930s in classical style on a site formerly occupied by the town's gaol. They are still the home of the local authority, currently South Ayrshire Council. The Buildings face the sea, overlooking gardens and open space. The statue commemorating the men of the local infantry regiment who died in the Second World War occupies a central location in front of the Buildings. See Image for a closer look.

County Buildings and Steven Fountain, Ayr
The original County Buildings were erected between 1812 and 1822 and comprised the court house, County Hall with offices and a gaol added at the rear (towards the sea). The County Gaol was subsequently demolished and used as a foundation stone laid in 1931 by the then Duke of York (later George VI) for the extension of the County Buildings to its present form. It now houses the Sheriff Court and the administrative headquarters for South Ayrshire Council. The four-stage fountain was presented to the town of Ayr in 1892 by James Steven, an iron founder in Glasgow, who resided for a time in Dalrymple. It was renovated in the 1980s the twinning of Ayr with St Germain-en-Laye, near Paris. Both the County Buildings and the fountain are Category B-listed by Historic Scotland.
