Former Post Office
The Co-op occupies the building formerly used by the Post Office Image The sorting office to the rear is still used but counter services were relocated into W H Smith's shop in the High Street.

Ayr Post Office
The main Post Office in Ayr, at the corner of the Sandgate and Boswell Park. This office is scheduled for closure in the current GPO re-structure. Counter services are to be relocated inside WH Smith's premises, in the High Street. After the re-structure, the Co-op took over the old Post Office building - see Image

The Former Free Church In Ayr
The building dates back to 1845, when it was constructed as the Ayr Free Church. (Source: "Ayrshire: Discovering a County", by Dane Love). For a few years in the 1980s, it was used as an auction hall. It now accommodates JD Wetherspoon's West Kirk pub.

Robert Burns Was Here
John Murdoch lived at number 58 in the Sandgate when he was English Master at Ayr Grammar School. Robert Burns lodged with Murdoch and attended the school for 3 weeks in 1765 to improve his language skills. The house no longer exists. (Source: "Ayr Stories", by Dane Love).
