13 Beresford Terrace, Ayr
The street with the cars on it is Parkhouse Street, but the striking domed building on the corner belongs to the street immediately ahead - Beresford Terrace. It is surprising that the building isn't listed, but Ayr town centre has plenty of eye-catching buildings to choose from I suppose. Canmore - Scotland's archaeological agency - do have a short entry on their site about the building, but only state that it is '1930s style', meaning that it may have been built later than the 1930s.
The current resident is a restaurant called Tempura, which is only a few years old, but seems to be doing okay for itself - three associated takeaways, dotted around Ayrshire, have been established since the restaurant's own foundation.
Tempura is a Japanese dish and can be - according to all the foodie sites - either lightly battered (as opposed to our own heavily battered chip shop stuff) vegetables, or lightly battered fish. The restaurant seems to stretch the meaning a little as, though it does do both of the above, it mainly promotes three other tempuras that all involve chicken: plain old regular chicken; tandoori chicken; and chicken burger. The new twist is obviously proving popular.
