The Back O' The Isle
Looking into Hope Street, known locally as "the back o' the Isle", this being an island of shops between High Street and Newmarket Street. In July 1832, the first case of Asiatic Cholera was reported in this street, leading to a severe epidemic with 205 deaths within a few months. (Source: "Ayr Stories" by Dane Love.)
