Ford over the Water of Girvan
The hoped-for footbridge seems to be inaccessible and possibly non-existent, so it is wet feet and legs or go back to Old Dailly. If you look carefully you will see a seat on the far side towards the left. We reached it an hour later, and it features in the next image.

Evidently still in occasional use, although the cart track on the other side is somewhat overgrown. See Image and Image

The Barons' Stone of Killochan
This impressive stone, left by the ice sheets of the last glaciation and shown on the Explorer Map, was the place where the Cathcart family of Killochan dispensed justice over their feudal vassals. Not only is the stone enormous, its very location suggests power. The scale is shown better in Image

The Killochan Stone
This impressive stone, left by the ice sheets of the last glaciation and shown on the Explorer Map as the Barons' Stone of Killochan, was the place where the Cathcart family dispensed justice over their feudal vassals. Not only is the stone enormous, its very location suggests power. The name of the stone was carved on the downwards-facing side during the early 19th century. See Image If the stone could talk, I wonder what tales it would reveal.

Carving on the Barons' Stone
The 19th century carving was difficult to see on my previous visit but was easier to find a few days later in better light.

The size of the Barons' Stone of Killochan
The presence of these two people gives a sense of scale to the Barons' Stone. Taking account of the build-up of soil and vegetation around the stone, it must have been even higher and more impressive when it was in use as a justice stone. It must have been an awe-inspiring sight for any vassal who had misbehaved. For more information, see Image

Approaching the ford
The lane from Old Dailly to the ford over Water of Girvan has become a fenced cart track through an ornamental plantation. Maps show a footbridge to the west, but there is no path in that direction.
