The room directly above what is now The Studio and Gallery was the scene of a multiple murder in April 1904. Joseph Calabrese who ran the ice cream shop below was convicted of the murder of his wife and four children. Originally sentenced to death at Ayr, Calabrese’s sentence was later changed to life imprisonment.
