Crossing, Gatehead
The railway from Troon to Kilmarnock crosses the A759 at Gatehead. This was the first railway to use a locomotive in Scotland when in 1817 there was a trial of a Stephenson locomotive. There were several horse drawn railways in Scotland as far back as the early 18th century.
