Kyle of Lochalsh station, north side, 1984
Some track reconfiguration has already taken place, judging by the bits in the empty spot in the middle. The scene is basically as it is today, apart from the signals and the siding on the right, which have been removed. Crushed ballast waiting to be used for track renewal can be seen on the left.

Approach to Kyle of Lochalsh station
A view from the bridge over the railway on Main Street. The station itself, being built on a pier, never had more than the single island platform, but old maps show there were once eight tracks at the widest point of this cutting (including freight sidings, some of which beyond the bridge seem to have survived at least until the 1970s, see Image). The present layout appears unchanged since 2003 Image

Kyle of Lochalsh station throat, 2003
Compared with Image taken almost 20 years earlier, the track formation is almost the same, although the point and siding on the extreme right have been removed. The semaphore signals have been completely removed. There is a marked deterioration from the neat appearance of the earlier shot.
