Starling
Rather surprisingly, in view of their abundance, most Starlings rear only one brood each year. Nest foundations are made by the male, and to his untidy mass of grass and straw the female adds a lining of feathers.

A Wood Pigeon at Lossiemouth
Wood Pigeons show a peak of nesting activity and success in late August and September, when the grain on recently harvested stubble gives the adult abundant food from which to make crop milk for the young.

This is a bird with a wide habitat tolerance, almost any area will suffice that provides some open ground with rough vegetation and a few trees and bushes.The nest is built low down, often on the ground or in the bank of a ditch A joy to see at any time but what a treat to see a Yellowhammer in the snow.
