Gordon and Macphail
This is the main outlet of whisky specialist company Gordon and Macphail. The company was founded as a grocers and wine and spirit merchants, and is still run by descendants of one of the original partners. It specialises in whisky, and stocks every brand available in Scotland. It has its own distillery, Benromach in Forres, and also bottles single malts which are not normally available elsewhere. The shop was until recently a wonderfully traditional high-class grocer's, but it has been modernised, made fully self-service and the range of products stocked greatly reduced. Moray Street
The second house here has an interesting first floor window. Note the 'Road Closed' sign, which seems to have been left behind after roadworks.

High Kirk
This is one of the few Elgin kirks still in use as such. I am not sure why it is called the High Kirk, because it started out as a Free Kirk soon after the Disruption in 1843, and is now a Church of Scotland. The architect was Thomas Mackenzie.

Elgin High Kirk
In fact there are two of Elgin's rather large supply of churches in this view. On the left is Elgin High Kirk. This is now a Church of Scotland, but was originally a United Free Church, built in 1843 by well-known local architect Thomas Mackenzie. Closing the view at the far end of the street is Image
