Anderson and England
Not only is the shop closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the street is also empty of parked cars. This is a very handy parking spot because you can park here for just 30 minutes, so there's almost always a space.

Cooper Park Pond
From time to time it is necessary to drain the boating pond in the Cooper Park, revealing a soft muddy bottom well scattered with assorted litter. The yellow sign warns people not to try and walk in the mud, No-one with any sense would do so; there are evidently quite a number lacking in that attribute, to judge by the deep footprints round the edge of the mud.

Oh, No You're Not!
The posters in the windows of Anderson and England's furniture shop say it's open, but the shuttered door belies this.

Cooper Park
Elgin's sizeable park is attractive enough but few people are about on this overcast May afternoon.

Former Drill Hall
The Drill Hall was built in 1908. In 1914-18, it was the base for E Squadron, 2nd Scottish Horse and housed the HQ and B and C Companies of the 6th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders. The Territorial Army used it until the 1990s, and when they no longer required it it became the Library headquarters, with an extension to the east which houses Elgin Public Library.

Testing the Ice
Young folk having fun finding out whether or not the ice on the Cooper Park pond was thick enough to take their weight. Not all of it was - one of the girls got a wet foot - but it was good to see them being cautious about the experiment. I do remember once being able to skate on this pond during my lunch hour many years ago.

Attitude adjuster
Slogans at the flood relief works in Cooper Park, Elgin.
"Challenging beliefs, affecting behaviour". Does not challenge my belief that George Orwell was rather better at this sort of thing.
