Inscription on Cumberland's Stone
Rain has washed pine needles into the carved letters on top of the huge boulder known as Cumberland's Stone. The inscription reads: "The position of the Duke of Cumberland during the battle of Culloden". See also Image .

Cumberland's Stone
It was from this vantage point half a mile in the rear of the government army of the Hanoverian King George II that it is believed the Duke of Cumberland viewed the battle of Culloden. The trees now screening the view are a recent planting.

Cumberland's Stone
Upon this boulder the Duke of Cumberland is supposed to have surveyed the progress of the Battle of Culloden. Geologically it is an erratic from the last ice age.
