Approaching Embo
This is the trackbed of the long disused Dornoch Light Railway, seen here near Embo.
It opened in 1904, stretching from Dornoch to the Mound where it joined the Far North Railway, making a very circuitous route to Inverness.
Never a great success and heavily subsidised, it finally closed in 1960.
Now part of a coastal path, and adopted by the recently waymarked John O'Groats Trail from Inverness.
