Cromarty Firth Industrial Estate
One of several industrial estates on the outskirts of Invergordon, this one is the site of the former smelter, which was set up in the 1960s to use hydro-electric power for extracting aluminium from imported bauxite. Sadly, it did not prove economic, and it closed in 1981.

Cromarty Firth Industrial Estate
I think the large low L-plan building is the actual former aluminium smelter. The day was so dull that the camera's automatic flash deployed, which is why the foreground fence is brightly lit.
