Nairn Museum
A Georgian building tucked away off the main A96 through Nairn houses the town's museum. As it was firmly closed, with a notice saying that it would reopen in April, I cannot comment on what it contains. The statue in the shade is of John Grigor MD (1814-1886) who is described on Image

Nairn Museum, Viewfield, and Dr Grigor statue
Originally a residence, this Georgian mansion-house is now the location of the Nairn Museum, which contains a wealth of historical and social records both of the community of the Fishertown of Nairn, and of the Victorian burgh and market town. Dr John Grigor was a surgeon originally from Elgin who settled in Nairn in the 1830s. A sometimes controversial figure, he built a large hotel and several other properties in the town and was largely responsible for promoting Nairn as an attractive seaside health resort and visitor-destination in the Victorian era. His vision has stood the test of time: Nairn is still one of the main tourist destinations on the Moray Firth.

Nairn Bus Station
This is marked on the 1:50,000 map as a bus station, but it really consists of little more than a bus shelter and some turning space, much constricted by car parking. The lettering has almost all fallen off the sheds or garages, so that it's not obvious whether they are part of the bus station or not. At least there's food while you wait for your bus.

Nairn Police Station
Nairn's interesting-looking new police station was designed by Colin Armstrong Associates and the contractors were McGregor Construction. It was opened on schedule in December 2009, replacing a previous building on the same site, and cost £11.6 million. It was shortlisted for a design award in 2010 by the Inverness Architectural Association, a chapter of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland covering the whole of the Highlands and Islands and Moray.

Nairn Community Centre
The new community centre, opened in October 2007, is next door to the police station, and has a similarity of architecture. It was designed by LDN Architects who are based in Edinburgh and Forres. The Centre web site is at http://nairncommunitycentre.co.uk/ and the architects' web site at http://www.ldn.co.uk/projects/nairn_community_centre.php shows some views of the interior.
