Hugh Miller's Cottage
Hugh Miller, (1802-1856) was born in this cottage now a museum in his honour run by the National Trust for Scotland. Apprenticed as a stonemason he took a keen interest in the rocks and fossils he found locally. An opponent of patronage in the Church of Scotland he came to Edinburgh to edit the paper,'The Witness' whilst continuing with his geological studies and writing. Overworked and perhaps unable to reconcile his religious beliefs with his geological findings he shot himself and is buried at the Grange cemetery in Edinburgh.

St Ann's an 18th Century Merchant's House in Cromarty
This tall 3 storey house is named St Ann's and was built in 1807 for a merchant here in Cromarty. It is exceptionally tall and local lore says that it was built so tall to block the wonderful sea view of The Sutors from Bellevue House opposite by rival brothers.
