Chelmondiston St Andrew?s church
When I wrote in my book about this ‘sterilised, hard and stark’ church I was unaware that it held a unique place in the history of Suffolk. On December 10th 1944, Chelmondiston church took a direct hit from a German V1 (doodlebug) rocket. Only the tower and part of the chancel were left standing. Therefore much of what is there to be seen today was rebuilt within the same footprint after the war. The church was reconsecrated in 1957. Great store has been set on the unique fact that this was the only church destroyed by enemy action in Suffolk during the war.

Very rare hour-glass in the holder
The holders are not uncommon but the hour-glass is very rare and not used these days. They were originally to help the preacher time his sermon to perfection.
