Ipswich Hospital: looking past the Garrett Anderson wing towards the main South Entrance
On the road surface ahead, there can just be made out a rainbow and some text encouraging people to stay safe: at the time of the photograph the Covid-19 epidemic was still in full force, as the mask worn by the man on the extreme left indicates.

New Garrett Anderson Centre at Ipswich hospital
The new Emergency Department opened on Tuesday 3rd June 2008, in the hospital's Garrett Anderson treatment centre. The Garrett Anderson Centre houses emergency care, day surgery, elective care and critical care.
Patients arriving by ambulance will be taken via the ambulance entrance at the back of the building. This allows rapid access to the resuscitation area and major treatment rooms.
The building is named after Elizabeth Garrett Anderson - the first female GP and a former mayor of Aldeburgh.

Maternity Block, Ipswich Hospital
The maternity block was opened in 1970, part of the development of the site for Ipswich Hospital since 1955. Part of the site was previously home to Ipswich Workhouse, which opened in 1889.

The Garrett Anderson Centre, Ipswich Hospital
The building is named after the UK's first female doctor, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. It opened in June 2008 and houses the Accident and Emergency unit for the hospital.
