Felixstowe to Ipswich railway line
This is the single track line joining Felixstowe to Ipswich, looking north at the Ipswich ring road. I have no idea what the two white patches are in the distance. In the left foreground a collection of bottles and cans suggests there is a drinking den down there.

Railway technology
Mystery technology by the Ipswich-Felixstowe railway line: A cylinder which appears to have hydraulic connections, a shorter wider cylinder, and some kind of mechanism in the middle of the track. Can a railway buff explain their purpose? I have now heard from a railway buff and the object is a rail lubricator, which puts a thin layer of grease on the inside of the rail to help stop rail wear on curved track. It is operated by the train wheels as they run over a plunger attached to the rail. Slight snag with this theory is that the lines are straight for miles.

Class 56 trial on the Felixstowe Line
Bound for Felixstowe class 56061 is being trialled on the branch from Ipswich with this container train. There are at least three people in the cab and as such the trial was successful as class 56 were then introduced and used on the line. This is now history and the locos long gone while the vegetation has grown here and such the view is rather more obstructed.
