Blue plaque for Dutch artist Cor Visser
Cor Visser was better known as one of the Suffolk Artists. He was born 26 August 1903, in Spaarndam, North Holland. He came to England in 1937, settling in Ipswich. He became particularly associated with the River Orwell, living for a while in his boat. He painted numerous watercolours of the river and surrounding area. He became involved in teaching and helping local artists. During the Second World War he was appointed official war artist to the Dutch Royal Family, then living in exile in London. He established the Fore Street Gallery at 44 Fore Street, Ipswich where he lived from 1962 to 1982. He died 27 September 1982 and is buried in Wherstead churchyard, overlooking the River Orwell. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4378682

Fore Street
An independent record shop is a rarity these days. The blue plaque on the house in the middle states that the Dutch artist Cor Visser lived here (1962-1982). This appears to have been a shop. The former home, between 1942-62, of Cor Visser (1903-82), the Dutch artist who spent much of his life living and working in Suffolk is seen here marked by a plaque at No.44, Fore Street. He came to England in 1937 and he lived on a boat in the marina for a time. He was particularly associated with the River Orwell, painting numerous watercolours of the river and surrounding area.
