I believe that "Crane" is the name of the company, rather than a description of what used to be made here. This is a big site, and a board outside proclaims "44 acre site acquired for development", so I don't suppose these buildings will be around much longer (credit crunch permitting, I suppose).

'Formation' sculpture
This stainless steel sculpture by Rick Kirkby at the entrance to the new Ravenswood Estate on the outskirts of Ipswich, commemorates the RAF. The housing estate has been built on the site of the former Ipswich airport, which was an active airfield in WW2. The six naked female figures represent planes flying in formation, whilst five searchlights pierce the sky. Behind the sculpture is the red-roofed 'Raven' public house.
