It is a shame the Victorians who built this street did not make provision for each house to have carriage parking - the result in the 21st century is a car parking and 2-way traffic nightmare.

I believe this site was originally intended to be a garage and filling station, but after planning permission problems it became a tyre centre for very many years. It has now been closed for years but look - no graffiti!

The care home, St. Peter's House, is being extended by building on the former garage site next door. There are several Geograph photos of the garage demolition. Work has now started on the groundworks for the new build. In the corner one of the owners is having a conversation with a builder. I'm a bit puzzled by the yellow tracked vehicle - it does not seem to have any facility to dig or carry or push soil.

Following the demolition of the previous garage buildings the site has been covered in heaps of material related to the building of a major extension to St. Peter's House care home, which can be seen behind. It is appropriate that the site should be used for this, as the terraced houses just visible on the left are built on the site of the medieval St. Peter's Hospital.

St. Peter's House is a care home in Out Risbygate Street in Bury St. Edmunds. It has been extended once (it was St. Peter's Cottage previously) and now it is being extended again. Will that make it St. Peter's Mansion?

Nearest the multi-storey we see the B&Q car park, with several mid-Sunday DIYers, then across Chalk Road and Risbygate Street (or probably Out Risbygate). The tall building just right of centre is the College. I'm not sure about the chimney on the skyline - that could be at the college, at the sports centre, or at Vintens' factory, which are all in line and all have a use for such a thing. This is a scanned print so the date can only be guessed at around 1990 - it was taken during the Bury Motor Show at the multi-storey.

This excellent example of Victorian carving (in Art Nouveau style?) is a detail of the house seen in Image The house was clearly constructed in 1896.
