Unused gates off dirt road, northern Bury St. Edmunds
These metal gates seem looked after, yet the foliage in front suggests they are never used. The sign on the gate says "Smile, you're on TV camera" but I could not see a camera - perhaps you have to break in first.

New gates, but still unused
Someone has spent a lot of money on this new fence and gates, but there is no sign of any vehicle ever disturbing the ground on this side, even during the construction. The access to this side is along a dirt track.

Surprise metalled road off dirt track
This little close, with its metalled road, is surprisingly located off a considerable length of dirt track. The steep hill is unusual in Bury - I would not like to own the house at the bottom when it rains hard.
In the distance we get the almost inevitable view of the sugar factory silos.

Developed close off dirt track
Walking along one of the dirt tracks that form the rectangular grid of this part of Bury St. Edmunds you suddenly come across this fully surfaced close with a few houses. Did they fail to get permission to surface the rest of the approach?
In the background various buildings of the sugar factory appear on the horizon.

The A14 - "Cuttin' A Swathe Through Town"
From the top of Thingoe Hill - the redbrick house in the distance is one of several that used to constitute a former Methodist boarding school for girls - the carriageway in the foreground passes where there used to be tennis courts.
