Tea Party Oak from across the parkland
The Tea Party Oak features in close up elsewhere in Geograph, but here we get a view of its place in the park. It is dead centre in the photo. A pigeon makes a blurry appearance.

Who'd have guessed they were that shape?
This shot across Ickworth Park reveals the shape of the bare structure of a dead tree - which really isn't the shape I'd expected. I think it is an oak. The nearby conifers keep design straight and simple. This part of the park is very flat.

The Tea Party Oak, Ickworth Park
This ancient oak has a hole right through the middle. It does not look as if it should still be standing or growing. For details of this tree see Image

Fallen oak as natural climbing frame
A caption board explains that the tree was hundreds of years old when it succumbed to a high wind. Children love it as a natural climbing frame, a castle rampart, part of an alien planet landscape, or whatever. Just a stone's throw from the car park, but no stone throwing please!

Trees and shadows in Ickworth Park
Two trees immediately behind the photographer cast their long shadows across the parkland, towards a small group of trees near Ickworth Lodge.

Old tree in Ickworth Park
The more you look at it, the lower trunk of this old gnarled tree begins to resemble the head of a cow, or a deer.

Tall trees in Ickworth Park
The parkland around Ickworth House was designed by Capability Brown and includes a wide variety of trees. Considerable replanting has been undertaken in recent years by the National Trust, to replace trees blown down or that have reached the end of their natural lives.

Deer enclosure fence, Ickworth Park
The deer have been removed this year, for some reason, and sheep are currently residing in this enclosure. The hide, visible to the right of the photo, is closed.
