Shimpling St George?s church
Do not confuse Shimpling with Shimpling Street; they are over a mile apart. Originally, the parish was called Shimplingthorne, and a small part of it still is. Situated in the village centre, just off the three-cross-ways, the churchyard contains the mausoleum of the Halifax family of Chadacre Hall. The lovely octagonal font is the only object of real interest here. It is late 14th century with an uncommon shape and design. Eight clustered columns support the shallow carved bowl on an octagonal plinth. The panelled pulpit is square and has some carving in the form of cusped arches and religious symbols. There are wall monuments to members of the Halifax family, one of which set into the wall is particularly pleasing. It is of Thomas Halifax, and has carved angels kneeling and praying over a casket.

St George's church, Shimpling
Mostly C14/C15. There are some remnants of old glass incorporated into the building, probably from an earlier (C12) church. Inside there is a C14/C15 font.
