Footpath through barley
A wide view from near the Hartest Hill end of a path to Boxted. Boxted Church, 2km/1.25m away on the other side of the valley, was clearly visible to the bespectacled eye, but is only a pale speck among the trees in the centre of this picture.

Ploughed field with set-aside strip
On a footpath at the east side of the village of Hartest. Many of the fields here have a wide strip at the edge. Sometimes, as here, it is mown grass; elsewhere the grass may be left to grow longer,as food for birds.
