Railway bridge on Griffin Wharf branch
Bridge 248 GRW crosses Wherstead Road on the way down from Halifax Junction to the West Bank of Ipswich Docks. The only traffic now, if it still exists, is to an aggregates terminal. There is a separate higher level pedestrian underpass on the left, suggesting the dipped road under the bridge may flood at times.

On the left of the picture is a square tunnel which was it is said, was once the entrance to the Ipswich underground railway. This was however an April Fool's joke.

Surface level remains of Ipswich underground railway
Halifax Quay:The two storey control block on the left is said to be all that survives of Halifax Quay station, one of the first stations on the system to be built. It served the large workforce of Cocksedges Engineering on the other side of Wherstead Road, and thousands of workers used the station every day. The white tunnel in the centre of the picture supposedly led through to the platform, and stairs led up the bank above to another platform on the main line. Ipswich Underground railway was instigated as an April Fools prank and never existed.
