New Cut, Ipswich
In the 19th century the Orwell/Gipping was diverted away from its former course with ancient dock facilities over beyond the far bank, which was turned into a quite extensive wet dock entered via a lock. The boats are at Debbage Marina. Upstream from here the river now has little use, and the low Stoke Bridge and, some way further up, a weir, limit navigation.

Old crane, New Cut, Ipswich
This crane has not been used for many years; it is a relic of the days when small coasting vessels berthed in the New Cut. The area is now only used by leisure craft. The railway siding is also unused; it links with the main London to Norwich line, south of Ipswich station.
