Roughly the route of a former railway
Looking from the bridge which is the only surviving feature of the railway locally. The route veered slightly right across the field. The former bridge is a uniquely high point compared to the surrounding farmland.

Offset crossroads
Often offset crossroads are to made so it is clear which road has right of way. In this case it is because this used to be a three-way cross, including a railway. The offset is so only one bridge was needed.
