Icklingham All Saints church
A very historic church, in fact probably the most important in Suffolk in many respects. It has been cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust since 1973, some wonderful work has been carried out here. The church has been out of regular use for well over 100 years and that, ironically, is what has preserved it. It was not restored by the Victorians. It is unmissable and has space to park your car. The walls of the nave are 12th century. Inside you will see what a mediaeval church used to look like after the Reformation. The unique octagonal font is early 14th century and stands on five columns. A stone coffin lies on the floor of the west end. There is a simple 16th century parish chest. The rood screen is splendid and undamaged. The rood stairs are still open. In the chancel, there is a double aumbry and a large trefoil piscina.
